Dear Santa,

23Each year, I have helped my children write a letter to Santa telling him what they would like for Christmas. Each year, I put the letters in an envelope and tell the children that I will be mailing their letters at the Post Office. Each year, I tuck away that envelope in a folder of my Christmas Planner. And each year, I get out the previous letters to Santa and read through them and marvel at how much my children have changed. I used to write my oldest daughter’s letters for her and just let her “write” on the page after I was done. Now, she writes her own letters in a very neat, 8-year-old hand. These letters have become treasures.

Today’s Countdown to Christmas Challenge is to help your children write letters to Santa. Not only wi100countdownll it help you know what to buy for Christmas, but it is a living piece of your holiday memories. Write the letters on holiday stationery to dress them up. Have your child draw a picture of Santa or of the presents they would like.

  • I keep trying to convince my 4 year old of Santa, but he’s not buying it. Maybe I’ll write my own Christmas list. :)

PS – Macy’s have Santa’s Post Office – Drop off your stamped letter to Santa and they will donate $1 to the Make a Wish foundation. They will then mail your letter for you. Do you think we can help them reach their goal of $1 Million? More info here: http://social.macys.com/believe2009/#/santas-post-office

When my kiddos were little (now 25 and 30) I used to tell them Santa’s mail took A LONG…. TIME to reach the North Pole and we did letters to Santa in September. If there was a HOT new toy they wanted, I wasn’t stressed in December trying to find one and that was before the cyber world exploded with ebay and other sites. With my 30 year old, it was a Cabbage Patch Doll when people were lined up around Toys R Us mine was wrapped. With my 25 year old it was Talk Boy from Home Alone 2 – mine was ordered from FAO Schwartz catalog and wrapped before Halloween.
