Lots of Loot!

71Whether your child will be Trick-or-Treating or attending a church or neighborhood harvest party, most likely they will need some place to put all the good stuff. There are lots of options from traditional plastic jack-o-lanterns to fleecy treat bags to decorated pillowcases to paper sacks (think Charlie Brown).

The Countdown to Christmas Challenge for today is to begin to think about what your child will 100countdownuse for all that tooth-decaying loot. You don’t want to wait until the last minute to realize that your child really will have to use a paper sack. Something portable would be handy, while something with a handle might be more convenient to carry. A family craft session might be a great excuse to produce something festive and original.

Snowman CanvasThis week’s giveaway is for a customized Christmas canvas from October Belle Designs. You can choose from one of her Christmas collections:

* The Jolly Jingle Collection: Colors are apple green, red and white with accents in chocolate brown or black.

* The Merry Berry Christmas Collection: Colors are cranberry, dark green, gold and chocolate brown.

  • We used a basket last time, which worked well. Cora is going to be snow white this year, so we will probably use a basket again!

Nothing makes me smile like the big orange, plastic, smiling, pumpkin container!

  • Thankfully my 4 year old is NOT into candy. We have a neighborhood get together. We eat outside and he plays with the neighbors and the pets. Parents who are trick-or-treating with their kiddos seem to like that our street is all outside and all in one place… no walking up to a strangers door on our street!

  • Here’s a little tip for anyone who can use it: for Trick or Treat, we go out early and only stay out for an hour. After that, the girls are usually cold and tired and I’m usually at the end of my rope with crowds so we run home, sort quickly through the loot, flip on our porch light and re-distribute any of the candy we won’t be eating to other Trick or Treaters. That way, we don’t have butterscotch disks still sitting in a bowl on the counter at St. Patricks Day. The girls get the experience of going around in their costumes and we cull down the goodies to what we can eat before Thanksgiving. It’s a win/win!

We have a couple different plastic pumpkins and pumpkin type bags. They just choose which one they want to carry that night. I save them from year to year.

I love the Jolly Jingle collection! This year my oldest son will really be old enough to understand what the candy is all about, so this is a great reminder to figure something out. We’ll be attending a church festival, which likely means that I’ll be stuck carrying whatever we have – so something with handles is a must!

  • Our kids are really anxious to get to Halloween – having them help put their candy bag together will be fun for them!

I am making cute fabric bags decorated with pretty Halloween colored beads and rick rack for my little girl and her two friends next door, I think my 16 year old will finally be too old to trick or treat, but we will see . . .

  • Wonderful giveaway! I love her Merry Berry collection – beautiful. Thanks so much!
