Whether you have a tree already or will be getting one soon, popcorn strings are a traditional decoration used to add to your family’s Christmas tree.
Today’s Countdown to Christmas Challenge is to pop a giant bowl of popcorn. This can be cheap and e
asy by adding a quarter cup of popcorn kernels to a brown paper lunch bag. Fold the top of the bag over 2 or 3 times and then microwave for about 2 minutes. Keep popping until you can string enough to make a nice garland for your tree. Pop extra for your family’s movie night. Add the topping of your choice.

Our pop corn never seems to make it onto the string. It finds it’s way into our bellies too quickly! LOL Pop corn and cocoa is great this time of year.

Our tree would never survive with popcorn on it – our 70 pound Pit Bull would knock the tree down I’m sure. Nice idea and it looks great on the trees in pictures. One idea I’d like to share – when my kiddos were little and when our dog was in her “puppy crazy” stage I would decorate the bottom part of the tree with giant jingle bells in silver, red, green, gold and attach them to the tree with beautiful wired ribbon. It was like an alarm system that looks nice. When little hands or a curious puppy was touching the tree I knew and said “ta ta that’s only for looking”
My sister puppy Golden Retriever just last year ate the lights off the bottom of her tree and she called the emergency vet – fed her a loaf of bread (for the glass) and X-rays were needed.
Ah yes. I agree with the previous poster. Adding any more temptation to the tree would end up with four very curious and playful pets locked in the basement for the next three weeks. Great idea for people without pets, though!
