“Stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.” Stockings are an important part of many families’ Christmas traditions, and yet they are easy to forget about until th
e last minute.
Today’s Countdown to Christmas Challenge is to go through your stash (and you know you have one) of trinkets and goodies. Inventory what you have and consider what might be good to keep your eye out for. Keep in mind the size of your stockings, and do not go overboard. Santa’s policy is: Less is More!

I love stocking stuffer shopping! My good friend and I always go 3 or 4 days before Christmas for a nice mom’s evening out….we are both usually pretty close, if not completely finished shopping except for the stockings. We go out for dinner and then shop for all sorts of little trinkets.
I like the list that you gave the the suggestions in last years comments…especially the small box of cereal. Great thought.

Thanks for this inspiring post. We call them “Stocking Fillers” in the UK.
My twin daughters are lovers of little knick-nacks like stickers, badges, hair accessories and jewellery, so that’s what I’ll be stocking up on in the coming weeks.
I have blogged about stocking fillers and linked to your blog post in my Greeting Card Guru blog here: http://greetingcardguru.wordpress.com/2009/10/06/stock-up-on-stocking-stuffers/
This blog will also feed into my main mommy blog: http://www.mammakerr.com.

I made stockings with names embroidered on them years ago – a mantle decorated with garland and stocking hung – that’s Christmas. I love to fill stockings with candies of course, pistachio nuts, an apple, an orange and then the little trinkets – like pens, lip gloss, note pad, iTunes gift card, coupon for lunch with Mom & Dad for some one on one time. I even do a stocking for the dog and cat.
I looked at my stash yesterday and saw that I had like 10 leftover play-do containers from Halloween (we gave them out instead of candy). I will be using them this year!

This is a great one to do early. We’re having all the family here for Christmas morning, so we will need a lot of stocking stuffers!

“Santa’s policy is: Less is More!” I love it!!!! And as a professional organizer, I AGREE. Smart Santa!

I love stockings. At my house, everybody has a stocking, no matter their age. It’s always a challenge to fill the adult men’s stockings, because the usual suggestions don’t apply. They don’t hunt or fish or play golf or have a favorite team they’re rabid about. My dh is the hardest, I think.
We love stockings. For us that is all that Santa brings. The big presents are from us – we work hard to earn the money for them to get something big/nice/new/special and why should Santa get the credit for it.
So last year we decided that Santa only fills our stockings – which means we have be careful not to buy anything for the stockings when the kids are around.

Less is more…is Santa a organizer?
I have been stocking up on stuffers since the beginning of the summer.
Already got my 15 yo some very cool stuff for his stocking & the other boys have things too.
Now to work on dh’s stocking.

I’m all about the stockings around here, too…anyone have a great source for a themed set of stocking hangers with 5 pieces? We had a train set with 4 but since adding the baby last year have not been able to find a set to hold 5.
I think my favorite thing about Christmas are the stockings! I try not to load them up with candy, but instead homemade treats. I love to use travel sized hand lotions, hair accessories, fish hooks, $5 gift cards, small books, stickers, scrapbooking supplies, paints & brushes, I could go on & on. But I won’t.
Thanks for the awesome blog to keep me on track this year, and the wonderful giveaways!
Looking for a great gift for teens, the new fantasy novel, “Gateway to DreamWorld,” was released last month and has been receiving rave reviews.
During the cold months ahead, they will curl up in a warm blanket or in front of the fireplace and enter a fantasy world filled with excitement and suspense.
The book is listed on Amazon.com, Barnes&Nobles.com, and Powell’s Books.com

I love buying stocking goodies. Instead of filling my son’s stocking with “junk” trinkets that will get tossed (or lost) within two days, I like to fill it up with items he’ll actually use. Like a fun toothbrush, kids lotion, small notebooks & pencils, etc.
And thanks for the opportunity to win the Holiday ePlanner!
