Although gifts should not be the intentional focus of Christmas, we all know that they play a role in what is typically the most beautiful holiday of the year. And honestly, it is a satisfying experience to find the perfect gift for a friend, caregiver, or loved one in your life, and to find it with plenty of time to spare. It truly is better to give than to receive.

Today’s Countdown to Christmas Challenge is to create your Gift List* and place it in your holiday planner directly behind your calendars. Begin to list everyone you would like to give a gift to this year. Once your gift-giving list is complete with names, you can make a conscious effort to brainstorm for gift ideas at home or while out shopping. Be sure to make notes about your ideas and list the final gift once you’ve made or purchased it. Then refer back to the list for future gift-giving occasions such as birthdays or holidays.

* Available as a download in the 100 Days to Christmas 2011 eBook. Members to ListPlanIt.com can print or download Gift List B in Holidays & Occasions.

Though the goal is to give joyfully, there tends to be a lot of stress placed (usually self-inflicted) on the giver. One tremendous resource for choosing meaningful gifts for loved ones and friends is a simple wish list.

Since Sunday is a day of family, each Sunday post will contain a seasonal task or activity that involves getting the most enjoyment from the season with the ones you love most.

Today’s Countdown to Christmas Challenge is to create a Wish List for each member of your immediate family and give them a chance to jot down their wishes (or you can work on it together). When the lists are completed, add the pages to your holiday planner for quick reference. You will now have a place to go when new ideas for gifts are mentioned. Have your family make a comprehensive dream list that you can later whittle down to a more manageable size.
